Mirror Pool Fisheries operates three of the premier small water carp lakes in France, set in the stunning Limousin countryside close to the city of Limoges. Mirror Pool, Millstone Pool and Meadow Lake are all beautifully maintained, expertly managed exclusive hire venues offering serious carp anglers the opportunity to target some of the largest fish in Europe in a completely private, uncrowded setting. Unlike many French carp holiday venues, Mirror Pool Fisheries owns and operates all three lakes, and every fish stocked in them has been introduced and grown on by the team — giving anglers complete confidence in what they are fishing for. All three venues are open from the beginning of April through to the end of October, with five months of rest over winter to allow the fish to recover and continue growing. Mirror Pool is the jewel of the complex — a stunning 4-acre lake set in a wooded valley in the heart of the Limousin, thirty minutes north of the Dordogne. Often compared to the legendary Redmire Pool for its atmosphere and character, Mirror Pool holds approximately 130 carp with an average weight of over 35lb. The stock includes around forty fish over 40lb, eighteen over 50lb, one over 60lb and one at 71lb — making it one of the most impressive small waters anywhere in Europe. The lakebed is hard gravel with silt pockets and the water is entirely weed-free, with all snags removed to ensure clean, safe fishing. Night fishing is fully legal with no additional permits required, and a maximum of just four anglers fish the water per week. Millstone Pool is a magnificent 7-acre stream-fed lake dating back to pre-Napoleonic times, situated fifteen minutes from Limoges and thirty minutes from the Dordogne. This beautiful 300-year-old water sits peacefully in a valley surrounded by woodland and meadows, and holds approximately 100 carp with an average weight of 35lb, including around 30 fish over 40lb and fifteen over 50lb, with the lake record standing at 62-69lb. A maximum of five anglers fish per week, ensuring exceptional space and solitude. The shower, toilets and kitchen are conveniently located in the old Milhouse building on the dam, providing a comfortable base throughout the week. Meadow Lake is the largest water on the complex at 10 acres, offering the most prolific action of the three venues. Purchased in 2000 with the ambition of creating a truly prolific big carp destination, the lake now holds over 190 carp with an average weight of 33lb. Over half the stock exceeds 40lb, with fifteen to twenty fish over 50lb and the current lake record at 67lb. Individual anglers have recorded catches of over twenty carp in a single week, reflecting the exceptional stock density and feeding activity on this water. A maximum of six anglers fish per week, providing plenty of scope to move swims or stalk fish without feeling hemmed in. On-site facilities include shower, toilet and kitchen. All three venues offer a fully fenced and gated site for complete security and privacy, with vehicles parked close to the swims. An English bailiff is on site throughout the season, always on hand to provide advice on fishing tactics, local shopping and the numerous sightseeing attractions in the surrounding Limousin region. Sessions run Saturday to Saturday, commencing at 3pm and finishing at noon the following Saturday, and both individual and group bookings are accepted. Lake exclusive bookings are available across all three waters for groups wishing to have the entire venue to themselves.
