About
Moss Nook Lake is a 3.9-acre exclusive specimen carp water tucked away off Nook Lane in St Helens, Merseyside. Run by owner Neal and Lake Manager Lee alongside bailiffs Peter and the Jamies, this is a tightly managed, security-conscious venue built around the specimen carp angler. The gate stays locked throughout your stay, CCTV covers the site, and only anglers who have pre-booked are permitted on and around the lake. With a strict maximum of 9 anglers and no day tickets, Moss Nook offers something increasingly hard to find — genuine peace, space, and a water that has not been hammered into submission. The lake holds hundreds of carp to 30lb, built on an original stock that is regularly topped up with fish already over 15lb on introduction. The first confirmed 30lb common has now been banked, and with every new addition hand-picked for size, the stock is only improving. Moss Nook makes no apologies for being a challenging venue — it is not a runs water, and it is not meant to be. The fish are hard-earned, and that is precisely what draws serious anglers back. Bait boats, drones, sonars and fish finders are all permitted, giving you every advantage available — but you will still need to put the work in. Underwater the lake is packed with features worth hunting down. Depths range from just 4ft in the shallows to 18ft in the deepest sections, with submerged islands, weedy bays, overhanging trees, open water and a series of underwater bars and gullies spread across all nine swims. The weed is a feature, not a problem — it houses the naturals that keep the carp in outstanding condition and holds fish throughout the warmer months. Every swim on the lake is different, and finding the right one for the conditions on the day is half the battle. Each swim comes fitted with its own table, the car park sits close to the water, and on-site toilets are available throughout your stay. Sessions run 23.5 hours from 10:30am to 10:00am, with 30 minutes left between anglers for swim checks and movement. For groups, lake exclusives are available — all 9 swims for £225 per 23.5-hour session — which also unlocks the on-site fire pit, social area, and permission to bring dogs. The team are on hand throughout to offer advice and can even supply bait if you need it bankside. A winter ticket membership scheme runs from 1st November to 1st April, giving members access through the colder months with a 3-rod allowance, a dedicated booking calendar, and Friday and Saturday night sessions. Whether you are after a solo mid-week session on a properly stocked specimen water, or a full exclusive with a group of mates around a fire, Moss Nook Lake delivers a level of quality and control that most fisheries simply cannot match.
