White Springs Coarse Fishery is a 37-acre multi-lake venue set in the Welsh countryside at Pontarddulais, near Swansea. Established in 1987 by the late Vince Lloyd, the fishery was built entirely by hand on land that was once a peat bog, with natural spring wells feeding the lakes and providing exceptional water quality year-round. The fishery has been voted UK's Top Coarse Fishery by Anglers Mail and is widely regarded as one of Wales' premier angling destinations. It is now managed by Vince's daughter and son-in-law, Bethan and Jarrod, who continue the family legacy. The complex comprises five lakes, each with a distinct character. The Specimen Lake is a 9.5-acre mature water holding carp to over 45lb — including the lake record mirror of 45.2lb and common of 43.8lb — alongside grass carp to 32lb, with a strong head of upper doubles and thirties present throughout the year. The Big Pit is a large, deep venue formed by combining the Old Canal and Old Pit lakes, holding carp to 28lb alongside tench, perch, bream and roach in depths reaching 18 feet. The Pleasure Lake is a 30-peg water suited to all abilities, stocked with carp, tench, bream, roach, perch, koi and orfe. The New Match Lake is a 26-peg venue producing match weights consistently in excess of 100–150lb, popular with pole anglers and beginners alike. The Canal Lake is a multi-pegged water stocked with bream, tench, carp, perch to 5lb, roach, barbel and golden orfe, and is particularly well known for specimen perch that have attracted prominent media coverage. On-site facilities are extensive. The venue has a fully stocked tackle shop carrying Nash, Korda, Preston, Middy, Guru, Drennan, Korum, Mainline, Sensas, Dynamite, Sonubaits and more, alongside live, shelf and freezer baits. Accommodation includes three Scandinavian log cabins, self-catering apartments, a static caravan, hard standing caravan pitches with electric hookup, and lakeside fishing cabins on the Specimen, Big Pit and Pleasure lakes. Showers, toilets and a launderette are all available on site. The majority of swims are accessible via gravel paths with car parking directly adjacent, making the fishery highly accessible for disabled anglers. Day tickets, 24-hour, 48-hour and weekly sessions are all available, with the fishery open 8am to 8pm in summer and 8am to dusk in winter.

Tactics & Tips

Little and often approach works well on the Specimen Lake. Boilies and pellets only on Specimen and Big Pit. Pole fishing highly effective on Match Lake and Canal. Ledger and method feeder tactics productive on the Big Pit. Margins and gravel bars regularly overlooked on Specimen Lake — well worth targeting.
