Baden Hall Fishery
1 / 4About
Glovers is Baden Hall Fishery's newest specimen lake, opened in May 2015 and already firmly established as one of Staffordshire's most exciting carp waters. Spanning 6 acres with gin-clear water, the lake was formerly a sand and gravel quarry and retains all the hallmarks of a classic gravel pit — crystal visibility, abundant natural food, thriving wildlife and a rich, complex lakebed. With just 8 pegs spaced along one bank, Glovers offers an unparalleled sense of space and exclusivity, ensuring minimal interference between swims. The exceptional water clarity allows anglers to observe fish behaviour in real time, adding a unique and thrilling dimension to every session. Each swim is supplied with an unhooking mat, landing net, weigh sling and water bucket — personal equipment must not be used to prevent disease transmission. Bait boats are permitted on Glovers with appropriate use. A peg draw takes place at 10:30am on arrival. The lake is strictly for anglers aged 18 and over, and no guests are permitted. Tickets run from 11am to 11am. Glovers holds a thriving population of pristine commons and mirrors, with a healthy head of twenties and thirties to 35lb-plus, and a current lake record of 45lb 8oz. Since opening, the stock has exhibited rapid growth rates and the lake is widely expected to produce its first regular 40lb-plus fish in the near future. One of the unique draws of Glovers is the genuine possibility of landing a fish that has never been caught before — a testament to the water's largely untapped potential. Tactically, Glovers rewards stealth, patience and careful observation above all else. The gin-clear water means fish are easily spooked, so minimal noise and disturbance around the peg is essential. Surface fishing is a must-try technique from spring onwards, with polarized glasses invaluable for locating cruising fish and clear patches along the far margins. Close-in fishing following a warm wind can also be highly productive, as fish are frequently caught tight to the near bank. Bait boats can be used for pinpoint accuracy when baiting the far margin, but activity should be kept to a minimum. Dawn and dusk are peak feeding windows and should be planned around carefully. Proven bait choices include Mainline Cell and Essential Cell, Sticky Baits Krill and Manilla, Dynamite Monster Tiger Nut, and newer options including DNA Bug and Secret 7, which have been producing excellent results. Zig rigs perform particularly well in spring and early summer as fish feed mid-water, while naked chod rigs and ronnie rigs are reliable choices over silt and weed. Surface rigs with bolt controllers come into their own from spring through summer, and pop-ups provide excellent bait visibility above any lakebed debris. In colder months, smaller, high-attraction baits fished over concentrated spots will outperform heavy baiting approaches.

Far margin along the opposite bank is highly productive. Close-in swims following warm winds consistently produce fish. Dawn and dusk are peak feeding windows — stealth and minimal disturbance are critical on this clear water.
