The Specimen Lake is a 1.5-acre gin-clear water situated at the back of the Newhay Lakes complex, providing serious carp anglers with a technically demanding and highly rewarding session. The lake carries mirror, common and grass carp to well over 35lb, backed by a strong head of old mirrors and commons from mid-doubles through to the high twenties. The water is kept clear through the use of a dye to suppress weed growth, though a silty bottom with areas of silk weed means there is work to be done in locating the clean spots and features worth fishing to. Eight spacious pegs are spread around the lake, all with easy access and a short walk from the private car park. Carp cradles are provided on site. Bait boats are permitted but anglers must remain courteous and stay within their own swim. No spodding or spombing is permitted. Rigs must be fished with safe zone leaders or tubing — no fixed leads, naked rigs or leadcore. Micro barbed hooks only to a maximum size not specified; no braided mainline. Only prepared particles are permitted — no nuts of any kind, no groundbait and no method feeders. Night fishing is available to members. Sessions run 11am to 11am. Carp (excluding grass carp) may be retained for up to 20 minutes only. No sacking under any circumstances. All anglers must be aged 16 or over. An online peg reservation system is in place for members to pre-book their peg of choice.
