Millstone Pool is a magnificent 7-acre stream-fed lake dating back to pre-Napoleonic times, situated fifteen minutes from the city of Limoges and thirty minutes from the Dordogne. This beautiful 300-year-old water sits peacefully in a valley surrounded by woodland and meadows, offering an atmosphere and setting that is virtually impossible to replicate on a modern commercial venue. With a maximum of just five anglers per week, Millstone Pool provides exceptional space and solitude for serious specimen carp anglers seeking a genuine big fish holiday experience in France. The lake holds approximately 100 carp with an average weight of 35lb, including around 30 fish over 40lb and fifteen over 50lb, with top fish reaching 69lb and the published lake record standing at 62lb. The stock consists of large-framed, hard-fighting carp that have grown steadily on the rich natural food available in this mature, well-established water. The shower, toilets and kitchen are all conveniently located in the beautifully restored old Milhouse building, which sits just a few paces from the edge of the dam — providing a comfortable and atmospheric base from which anglers can relax and enjoy their surroundings between sessions. Millstone Pool has some of the most detailed fish care requirements of the three venues, reflecting the importance placed on the welfare of the large stock. All fish over 45lb must be photographed in the lake rather than on the bank, with chest waders provided if required. Carp must be lifted from the water using a sling at all times, with hooks removed while the fish remains in the net before transfer to a floating weigh sling in the water. Braid mainline and uncoated braid hooklinks are not permitted, no artificial baits or shelf-life boilies are allowed, and all leaders including leadcore are banned in favour of rig tubing. On-site bait is available through Union Jack Baits — P3 16mm fishmeal and robin red with liver and garlic at 55 Euros per 5kg, with orders placed through Symon Osborne at least four weeks prior to arrival.
